Endodontics – Root Canal Treatment

Saving a tooth from extraction is our greatest satisfaction!

Root canal treatment, or endodontic therapy, is a necessary procedure whenever a bacterial infection has deeply penetrated the tooth, attacking the dental pulp. At Miko Dental, our endodontics department is one of the busiest, as microscope-assisted endodontic procedures are performed in cases of moderate to severe decay, treating infections that have compromised the pulp. This pain-free treatment repairs the internal structure of a tooth down to the apex (root tip), preventing the need for extraction or retreatment.

ZEISS Endodontic Microscope

The ZEISS Endodontic Microscope is an essential tool in the treatment of infected root canals. With exceptional precision and accuracy, this advanced device enables our specialists to perform delicate and complex procedures within the root canal system, ensuring thorough and effective treatment.

When Is Microscope-Assisted Root Canal Treatment Necessary?

Severe tooth pain while chewing or biting

Persistent sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures

Tooth discolouration

Previous endodontic treatment failures

Swollen gums or periodontal conditions

Pus formation around an infected tooth

Extensive decay affecting multiple teeth

Facial or neck swelling due to infection.

Stages of Root Canal Treatment

1️⃣ Initial Diagnosis & Radiography The first step involves taking a dental X-ray to assess the exact shape and length of the affected tooth’s root canals. This provides the endodontist with essential diagnostic information.

2️⃣ Anaesthesia & Isolation After local anaesthesia, the tooth is isolated using a rubber dam—a thin latex membrane that prevents bacteria in saliva from contaminating the inner tooth structure.

3️⃣ Access & Cleaning A small opening is made through the tooth’s crown to access the pulp chamber. The endodontist precisely navigates the root canal system, removing infected or necrotic tissue while thoroughly disinfecting the area.

4️⃣ Shaping & Filling Once cleaned, the root canal is shaped and filled with gutta-percha—a biocompatible material that restores the tooth’s anatomy and function.

With modern microscope-assisted techniques, our endodontic treatments are highly effective, minimally invasive, and aimed at preserving your natural teeth for years to come.
